The class maximum for each course is 25 and students will be registered on a first come, first paid basis. If a class does not have a minimum of 10 students enrolled two weeks before the class starts the class will be cancelled. If a class has extremely low enrollments, it may be cancelled sooner to allow the students enrolled in the course sufficient time to enroll in a different class. If you signed up for a class that is canceled you will be called and given the option to enroll in a different class that has not reached the maximum enrollment of 25. If you cannot make a different class, your money will be refunded.

Guides that are interested in attending these courses must register by calling the college at 262-0381 or 262-0314. Tell the person you want to register for the Kenai River Guide Academy®. Individual guides will be required to give their name, social security number and credit card information. Business owners wishing to register guide employees/subcontractors should see the note below. Guides will need to pay the $206 course fee with credit card over the phone or can mail their check to:

Kenai River Guide Academy®
c/o Kenai Peninsula College
ATTN: Valerie Lewis
156 College Road
Soldotna AK 99669

Seats will not be “held” for anyone without payment. If you cannot pay by credit card over the phone, you are required to send a letter to the above address with a check or money order. The same information that is required by phone is required in the letter. Not until the the letter and payment is received will a seat be reserved. When payment is received, you will receive a confirmation email or phone call from the college.

Waiting Lists
If you call and request a seat in a class that is fully enrolled, you can ask to be placed on a waiting list. You will be placed on this list based upon when you call. If a seat becomes available, those on the list will be called in the order their name was placed on the list. You can state a class preference for when you want to attend, but you will be called anytime there is an opening. If you refuse a seat in a class, you will remain on the list in the same order and could be called if a seat opens up in a future class.

It is possible, that you could be called at 8:30 am on the first day of a class if another guide does not show up. We will call you once to ask if you can get to the class no later than noon that day. If you are unable to do that or if you don’t answer your phone, the vacant seat will be offered to the next person on the waiting list. If you don’t answer your phone, you will have a phone message stating that the Kenai River Guide Academy called to offer you a vacant seat, but we were unable to reach you, but your name will stay active on the waiting list for future potential vacancies. It is suggested that when registering for a class that you provide us with any phone numbers where you might be reached and we will try to reach you at those numbers you provide us.

Show up on time the first day or lose your seat
On the first day of class, all guides are required to be in the classroom by 8 am. If you are not present by 8:30 am, your seat will be offered to those on the waiting list in the order by which they were placed on the list. If you show up after 8:30 am, you will be unable to take the course that week. We will offer to put you in a different class, if there is vacancy, or place you on the waiting list.

Cancellations
If you are unable to make the class you are registered for, contact us immediately. Your seat will be given to a person on the waiting list. You will then need to inform us of the next class you are interested in. If there are no seats in that class, you have a choice of being placed on the waiting list or asking about vacancies in another class. If there are no vacancies in other classes, you will be placed on the waiting list.

Important Registration Note to Business Owners
Business owners may call and reserve seats for up to 10 of their guide employees/subcontractors per class. These guides must be present employees/subcontractors or guides that will work for the business owner in the upcoming or next fishing season. When the business owner calls to register these guides, the employer must provide their ADF&G business owner license number, the name of each guide they wish to register, social security number for each guide, and pay for all seats requested with the business owner’s credit card. Seats reserved by a business owner in the above manner may be substituted with a different guide/subcontractor name up until five business days prior to the class start date if that employee/subcontractor gives notice to the employer that he/she has decided not to work for the business owner.

If an employee/subcontractor guide who is working for another business reserves their own seat in a class rather than having the business owner call and reserve their seat, and the guide decides to cancel their reservation, that seat will be offered to guides that are on a waiting list if one is being used. Individuals making their own reservations may not substitute a different guide for the class they registerd for nor can they sell their reserved to seat to another guide.

Seats in KRGA courses cannot be resold by anyone. Individuals who come to the first day of the class must be registered for that class and must show a photo ID (driver’s license or other state or federal issued photo identification card) to prove their identity. If they are not registered for that class or if their photo ID does not match the registrant’s information provided at the time of registration they will be asked to leave the course.
